Day 6: Can’t believe our first group is almost over!
Congratulations graduating 1st graders of New Hope Primary School!! I cannot believe how far they have come… Today was their last day of their very first year of school and we had a closing party to celebrate their success.  The party started out with games – we played everything! Hide and Seek was the best… Ty at one point had all 30 children chasing him as he ran to “safe base”.

They ran relays, played dodgeball, played duck duck goose (although they know it as Play-Ha)…until it was lunch time.  Then the commotion and chatting stopped.  Complete silence followed.   It was a HUGE meal with each child receiving 2 cups of rice smothered in onion, carrot, and chicken stew.  Each child received an entire thigh of meat along with potato salad, beet root, and shredded carrots on top (Thanks Mitali!).  And the crazy thing was – even our 4 year old preschoolers cleaned their plates!  Andrea asked the children what their favorite part was… many children pointed at every single thing on their plates repeating “This one’s my favorite and this one’s my favorite and this one’s my favorite…”

They then painted Give Hope Fight Poverty thank you cards.  For some of the kids, it was their very first time with a paintbrush! And for others, more paint landed on their face and fingernails than on the paper – but everyone had fun and the masterpieces will be available as a pack of 5 thank you cards for a $10 donation! This evening we said goodbye to the eLangeni kids.  For Ty and me, we will see them again in one week when we return from our honeymoon in Cape Town… but for the others it was more final.  Lungelo asked if he could come to Malindza with us when we return because he wants to help… these children never cease to amaze me…

This week we accomplished everything on my to-do list and more:
1.       Planted fruit trees to offer a sustainable nutrition source
2.       Paid our orphan education scholarships
3.       Enrolled Njabuliso in his automotive engineering program
4.       Delivered food to child-headed homes
5.       Purchased brand new classroom furniture for New Hope Primary School
6.       Gave brand new school shoes and backpacks to Malindza orphaned students
7.       Provided electricity and water for New Hope Primary School
