Day 5: Safari and Malindza day!
Today we woke up early to drive to the Hlane game park. Ty, Angie, and Haley are excited that a lion
growled at them while their jeep drove by…only feet away from the ticked off
cat – I took a 2.5 hour nap in the car to save some money…and catch up on some
zzz’s. After the safari, we went to
Malindza Village to deliver food to our sponsored high school girls:
Nomalungelo and Nothando. Their
situations are the worst out of all of our children. They both live with their Gogo’s
(grandmothers) in homes shared with 6-8 other orphaned grandkids. They sleep on foam mats on the floor with
everyone in their family that are the same gender and rarely have food at
home. We held Nothando’s 4 month old
baby Luyanda and was excited to see how much she smiled…especially after being
fought over by 3 white girls! (Ty was happy just to hold her hand). When we delivered the food (Thanks
Mitali/FOODOM), the gogo’s danced for joy… the $48 worth of food will feed
their families of orphans for 3 months. December
and January are the hardest months for our kids because school is out of
session so they do not receive the nutritious school lunch. I’m so thankful for our GHFP donors who
sustain our kids through the hunger season.
It was hard to say goodbye to the Malindza kids but I am so
happy to see them again next month.
Tonight was thanksgiving dinner.
The group decided that since our kids were not eating amazing meals,
they didn’t need to either. They had a
piece of re-heated chicken and a handful of doritos (cheese supreme
flavored). I was so proud of them… and
so thankful they gave up their holiday of spending time with their American
families to spend time with our GHFP Swazi family.
